NewsPrimary election approaches in MilwaukeeWed, Feb 20th 2008, 12:14As the director of community relations for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Community Center of Milwaukee, Patrick has served as a tremendous advocate for our community. Due to his public role with the LGBT Community Center, Patrick has played a crucial part in several electoral campaigns, including organizing the Milwaukee efforts to defeat the anti-gay marriage amendment. Patrick’s work within the progressive community has allowed him to garner the support of several traditional progressive allies. Patrick has been endorsed by the Milwaukee Labor Council, AFSCME, and the LGBT Center Advocates PAC, Wisconsin’s only LGBT political action committee. Patrick faces six candidates in the primary election, with the top two vote-getters advancing to the general election only six weeks later. Currently, the two major competitors in this race are Sam Rowan-McGovern, grandson of George McGovern and the relatively unknown John Connelly. Sam will be able to raise significant funds with his family ties to deep pockets and political players. Despite his low profile, John is working to boost his name recognition. His campaign is based on policing issues and while these issues resonate in the district, they are not a top focus of a large number of constituents. Support Patrick by contributing to his campaign. |
